Witty Wednesday's

My theme for Wednesday each week is witty Wednesday’s. On this day I will share something funny that relates to my topic of education. Witty Wednesday’s are made to brighten the mood, and have some relatability to you because almost everyone can relate to school.

This image is very relatable when being in school; after reading this list it reminds me of high school more than college at IUSB. High school, more than likely, to most everyone is a place that you don’t really want to be. In high school you feel as though you can make you own decisions but yet you are not treated as an adult and you are forced to take classes that you feel don’t pertain to you, or you don’t like and you have absolutely no freedom during the school day except maybe at lunch. Because of this, school becomes a place that most students do not want to be. As a future teacher it is my responsibility to change this perspective of school, and make my classroom a fun and productive place to be.

I hope that everyone has had the experience of at least one teacher in his or her lives that was fun and you loved going to that class everyday. This teacher, usually for most people, is a teacher that they had in elementary school. This is because in elementary school, everything seems fun because it can be themed for our favorite Disney characters. Growing up, classrooms become more boring because themes are something of the past, and curriculum takes over and sucks the fun out of everything. There is no time for interactive activities like there was in your younger years, or so the high school teachers think. I plan on making my classrooms as interactive as possible; this helps to motivate students to want to come to class. When students are motivated, authentic learning can take place in the classroom and student progress occurs.

Picture of the Day

This photo could represent a lot of different ideas for many people. When looking at this photo and think about what it could mean in education, many things pop into my head. 

In this photo the young woman is observing her beautiful view. To me, it seems that she has climbed this mountain and taken a break to turn around and look at her accomplishments.

From this view, she can see everything that she has conquered. Her stance is happy, relaxed and calm, which says to me that she is proud of her past accomplishments and is sitting to enjoy the view of them.

To apply this to my blog topic of education, I think it is important to realize that taking a break, and looking to see what one has accomplished can help that student to gain confidence to move forward. Moving too quickly from lesson to lesson, or unit to unit can be draining on a student, by taking a break and showing them their progress they will feel more motivated to keep going and increase their progress.

It isn’t just important for teachers to allow time for students to do this in the classroom, it is also important for adults to take time out of their day or week to think about the progress they have made.

About this blog

I came about this topic for a blog because of its relevance to my major as a special education teacher and because it is a hot new topic in education that many people have opinions on. Inclusion in special education is an important topic to me because in the field of education, every student deserves the right to be in a successful environment where learning can take place and grow. As I am in the process of becoming a special educator, it is my job to provide my students with the education they deserve. This blog will give me a place to go and talk about what I have learned about inclusion, the in’s and out’s on a day-to-day basis for the students’ and teachers’ alike.

In this blog I hope to give the knowledge that I know to others who are questioning inclusion, and also receive feedback from others who maybe have questions, or know more than I do about the topic and can provide feedback better feedback then I can. The people that I expect to read this would be future teachers, such as me, or professionals who work with the topic on a daily basis.
